Cambridge, MD - A routine traffic stop in Dorchester County on Wednesday morning led to the arrest of a local man wanted on a serious criminal charge out of Delaware.

At around 10:55 a.m. on May 28, 2026, Cambridge Police Department officers pulled over a vehicle at the intersection of Route 16 and Stone Boundary Road. The driver was stopped for passing on the right.

When officers made contact with the driver, they identified him as Jerome Dion Wongus, 66, of East New Market, Maryland. A records check revealed that Wongus had an active warrant out of the state of Delaware for Armed Robbery.

Wongus was placed under arrest at the scene without further incident. He was later turned over to the Dorchester County Department of Corrections, where he is being held on No Bond status.

He is currently awaiting extradition to Delaware to face the charge connected to that warrant.

The arrest serves as a reminder that a routine traffic violation can quickly turn into something more serious when law enforcement runs a records check. Officers with the Cambridge Police Department were able to take a wanted individual off the streets during what appeared to be a minor stop.
