Cambridge Man Arrested on Assault Charges After Choking Victim
Cambridge, MD - A Cambridge man is behind bars after police say he grabbed a woman by the throat and threw her to the ground during what he claimed was only a verbal argument.
Cambridge Police Department officers responded to the 10 block of Cedar Street on May 19, 2026, at approximately 3:46 p.m. after a report of a physical disturbance in progress.
When officers arrived, they found the victim lying on the ground. The victim initially told officers the incident was only a verbal argument. However, officers noticed visible redness and bruising on the victim's neck.
Further investigation revealed the victim had been grabbed by the throat and pushed to the ground by Lamar Marcus Smith, 29, of Cambridge, Maryland.
Smith was placed under arrest at the scene. He was later turned over to the Dorchester County Department of Corrections and is being held on no bond.
Smith was charged with first degree assault, second degree assault, and reckless endangerment.
