Cambridge, MD - On Monday, October 5, 2026, at approximately 11:15 a.m., the Cambridge Police Department responded to the 600 block of Pine Street in Cambridge, Maryland, where officers located and arrested a man wanted on two warrants. Both warrants were for missing a court date.

The man was identified as James Cecil McCoy, 48, of Cambridge. He was later released on his own recognizance.

Being released on recognizance means McCoy did not have to post bail. Instead, he gave his word that he will return to court when he is told to.

Both warrants came from the Dorchester County District Court. Each one is a bench warrant for failing to appear in court.

A bench warrant is issued by a judge when someone misses a court date. It gives police the power to arrest that person and bring them back before the court.

According to police, McCoy was due in court on Thursday, September 17, 2026. He did not show up, and the two warrants followed.

The first warrant is tied to an original charge of CDS Possession Not Cannabis. CDS stands for controlled dangerous substance, and this charge covers having a drug other than cannabis.

The second warrant is tied to an original charge of CDS Possession Paraphernalia. That charge covers having items used to take or handle drugs.
