Cambridge Police Department Arrests Man on Assault and False Imprisonment Charges

Cambridge, MD - On February 20, 2026, at approximately 12:40 a.m., officers from the Cambridge Police Department arrested 29-year-old Damian Joseph Shaka of Cambridge, Maryland. The arrest was made pursuant to an active Dorchester County District Court arrest warrant.

Following his arrest, Shaka was released on his personal recognizance.

Shaka faces multiple charges in connection with a recent incident. These charges include two counts of second-degree assault, false imprisonment, and reckless endangerment.

The charges stem from an investigation that began on February 19, 2026. At approximately 8:40 p.m., officers met with a victim at the Cambridge Police Department. The victim reported an assault that occurred earlier that day in the 5200 block of Gallim Court.

According to the investigation, an argument between the victim and Shaka began at approximately 1:00 a.m. on February 19. The dispute resumed around 9:00 a.m. The victim attempted to pack their belongings to leave the residence. Shaka reportedly pulled the bag away from the victim.

Shaka then refused to allow the victim and a small child to leave the home. He also took a cellular phone from the victim's hands and attempted to break it. The victim was eventually able to safely leave the residence at approximately 3:00 p.m.

Officers subsequently applied for charges through the Court Commissioner. This application resulted in the issuance of the arrest warrant.
