Cambridge Police Seek Tips After Armed Carjacking
Cambridge, MD - On September 25, 2026, at approximately 9:58 p.m., the Cambridge Police Department (CPD) responded to the 1200 block of Chestnut Place in Cambridge, MD, for a reported carjacking. The victim told officers that several people with guns approached them and took their vehicle.
The victim said they were parked at Cambridge Commons and had just gotten out of the vehicle. They heard noise coming from the woods behind them.
A male wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, with the hood pulled tight around his face, pointed a handgun at the victim. He ordered the victim to get on the ground.
The victim then saw about nine other people walking toward them. About four of those people also had handguns.
While the victim was on the ground, the group took the vehicle keys. They also went through the victim's pockets and took several cell phones. The victim said all of the people appeared to be between the ages of 15 and 18.
Meanwhile, an off-duty CPD officer spotted the vehicle near Clifton Woods. The officer told on-duty officers that it was driving on Jenkins Creek toward the Westside Bypass.
Another CPD officer saw the vehicle as officers arrived near the Westside Bypass. When the officer turned around to follow it, the vehicle sped up in an attempt to get away. A short pursuit began.
The vehicle continued to Washington St and then onto St. Claire Ave. The people inside ran from the vehicle on foot, and officers could not find them. The vehicle was recovered and returned to the victim.
No suspects have been identified at this time. Detectives with the CPD Criminal Investigation Division believe a silver or light-colored sedan and a dark colored pickup truck may have been used to move the suspects around.
This is an ongoing investigation, and CPD is asking the community for help. Anyone with information about this incident can contact the CPD Criminal Investigation Division at 410-228-3333.
