Cambridge Woman Charged After Bat Threat on Cedar Street

Cambridge, MD - On September 14, 2026, at approximately 3:05 p.m., Cambridge Police Department officers served a criminal summons on Monica Laval Cephas. Cephas is 60 years old and lives in Cambridge, Maryland.

She was charged with assault in the second degree and use of a dangerous weapon with intent to injure. The charges stem from an incident that happened earlier this month.

Police say the incident took place on September 6, 2026, in the 100 block of Cedar Street in Cambridge, Maryland. A victim told police that Cephas approached them in a parking lot after the victim came out of a store.

The victim said Cephas was holding a metal bat at the time. Police say Cephas threatened to kill the victim and threatened to hit them with the bat.

The victim went to the District Court Commissioner's Office to apply for charges against Cephas. That application led to the criminal summons Cephas was served with more than a week later.
