Cambridge Woman Charged After Being Found Passed Out in Car

Dorchester County, MD - At approximately 5:00 p.m. on September 5, 2026, Cambridge Police Department (CPD) officers responded to Zipmart, located at 405 High St in Cambridge, Maryland, for a welfare check. A witness reported seeing a subject who appeared to be passed out inside a running vehicle.
Officers arrived and found the vehicle running with a female subject in the driver's seat. A witness told officers the vehicle had been parked there for approximately two hours.
Officers knocked on the windows to try to wake the woman, but got no response. They then broke a rear window to reach her.
The woman was identified as Mary Deloniel Fitchett, 39, of Cambridge, MD. Officers noticed a bottle of alcohol inside the vehicle and asked Fitchett to step out.
A check of the vehicle's registration showed the tags were suspended. Fitchett was taken to the University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Cambridge, where officers met with her again.
At the hospital, Fitchett declined to take a Standardized Field Sobriety Test. She also refused a breath test and a blood draw.
Fitchett was issued three traffic citations. She was cited for driving on a suspended registration, driving while under the influence of alcohol, and driving while impaired by alcohol.
