Cambridge Woman Charged After Food Lion Shoplifting Call

Cambridge, MD - On September 26, 2026, at approximately 5:59 p.m., the Cambridge Police Department (CPD) responded to Food Lion in Cambridge, MD, for a shoplifting in progress. Officers arrived at the location and suspect in front of the store.

Police identified the suspect as Makayla Rose Mitchell, 29, of Cambridge, MD. Store video showed Mitchell take food items into the restroom. She then walked out of the restroom without the items.

Officers tried to place Mitchell under arrest. Police say she resisted and became disorderly, causing a scene in front of the store.

While officers were putting her in a patrol vehicle for transport, police say she kicked an officer. Mitchell was taken to CPD for processing.

She was later released on her personal recognizance. Mitchell was charged with theft less than $100, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, obstructing and hindering, and second-degree assault.
