Cambridge, MD - On Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at approximately 4:21 p.m., the Cambridge Police Department responded to the 100 block of Aurora Street, Cambridge, MD for a welfare check.

What started as a simple check on someone ended with a Cambridge woman under arrest and charged with several traffic charges, including driving under the influence.

When officers got to the home, they tried to reach the person they were there to check on. No one came to the door.

Police said officers were told the caller was still on the phone. The caller said they could not come to the door because they were drunk.

While officers were still at the scene, a car pulled up. Police determined the woman driving it was the same person who had been calling.

Officers spoke with the driver. She was identified as Amanda Maria Jewell, 45, of Cambridge, Maryland.

According to police, officers saw several signs that Jewell was impaired. Jewell also told officers she had taken THC gummies earlier that day.

Officers asked Jewell to take a Standardized Field Sobriety Test and she refused. At that point, she was placed under arrest.

Jewell was then taken to the Cambridge Police Department for more testing. Police said she refused to complete that testing as well.

Jewell was issued six traffic citations. Two of them are for driving while so impaired by drugs that she could not drive safely, and for driving while impaired by a controlled dangerous substance.

She was also cited for refusing alcohol or drug testing and for driving under the influence. The last two citations are for failing to show her registration card and failing to show her license.

After the citations were issued, Jewell was released to the care of staff at University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Cambridge. Police did not share any other details about her release.
