Cecilton Man Charged With Murder in Woman's Death
State of MD - On June 18, 2026, at approximately 1:45 a.m., troopers from the Maryland State Police North East Barrack responded to the 100 block of West Main Street in Cecilton. They were responding to a report of a person in medical distress.
Troopers arrived and found a woman at the scene. She was later identified as Ashley Silverman, 28, of Cecilton, Maryland.
Silverman was pronounced deceased at the scene. Her body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore, where her death was later ruled a homicide.
Police also located a man at the residence. He was initially charged in connection with an unrelated incident.
Investigators from the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit responded to the scene to lead the investigation. Crime scene technicians from the Maryland State Police Forensic Sciences Division processed the scene for evidence.
After consulting with the Office of the State's Attorney in Cecil County, police charged the man, identified as Jason Timothy Simpson, 28, of Cecilton, Maryland, with second-degree murder.
He was arrested Thursday morning without incident.
Simpson was taken to the Cecil County Detention Center. He is being held there without bond.
The Maryland State Police Homicide Unit continues to lead the active and ongoing investigation.
