Chestertown House Fire Displaces Four

Chestertown, MD - On September 25, 2026 at approximately 11:11 a.m., the Church Hill Volunteer Fire Company responded to Longfellows Drive, Chestertown, Maryland for a residential structure fire. The home is a one-story, wood frame, single-family house with an occupancy of four people.

A plumber discovered the fire. It started in the interior crawl space of the home.

About 30 firefighters worked at the scene, and one alarm was called. Crews had the fire under control in 30 minutes.

No one was hurt however four people were displaced from the home.

The State Fire Marshals Office estimates the damage to the house and everything inside at $100,000. A smoke alarm was present and it activated.

The preliminary cause is listed as accidental. Hot work ignited combustible materials in the crawl space.
