Chestertown House Fire Displaces Six

Queen Anne's County, MD - A house fire in Chestertown, Maryland left six adults without a home Wednesday afternoon, but everyone made it out safely. Crews were called to the 100 block of Church Meadow Court in Queen Anne's County around 12:40 p.m. for a fire at a two-story, single-family home with a basement.

A passerby noticed the fire and reported it.

Church Hill Volunteer Fire Company led the response. Firefighters had the fire under control in 41 minutes. In total, 23 firefighters responded to the single-alarm call.

The home did have a working smoke alarm, but it never went off. That's because the fire started outside the structure, not inside it.

Damage estimates are still being finalized. Officials estimate $1,000 in damage to the structure itself, along with $25,000 in damage to the contents inside.

All six residents have been displaced while repairs are made. The cause of the fire and where it started are both still under investigation.
