Cooling Center Opens in Wicomico as Heat Index Nears 110
Wicomico County, MD - Wicomico County is opening a cooling center this weekend as a dangerous heat wave moves into the area. The center will be located in the DANANG room at the Wicomico County Civic Center, 500 Glen Avenue in Salisbury, Maryland.
The cooling center opens Friday, July 3, 2026 and will run from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. It will reopen Saturday, July 4, 2026 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
County officials say the heat index could reach as high as 110 degrees on Friday. That kind of heat can be dangerous, especially for young kids, older adults, and anyone with health conditions.
If you plan to use the cooling center, there are a few things to know ahead of time. Residents will need to bring their own food, beverages, and any medications they take. Pets are not permitted inside the facility.
