County Executive Julie Giordano Has No Plans to Sell Nursing Home

Wicomico County, MD - Wicomico County Executive Julie Giordano released a statement this morning, on August 5, 2026, addressing recent public debate over the Wicomico County Nursing Home. She said the county will not sell or privatize the facility.

"Wicomico County has no intention of selling or privatizing the nursing home," Giordano said. She said the county has made this position clear before.

Giordano said the nursing home has become a talking point in local politics. She called the ongoing debate "both disappointing and disgraceful."

She said the facility means more than politics to the people connected to it. "The Wicomico County Nursing Home is not a political prop-it is home to some of our most vulnerable residents," Giordano said.

Giordano said the residents, families, and staff at the nursing home deserve better. "The families, residents, and dedicated employees deserve better than to see their home become the subject of political gamesmanship," she said.

Under county law, the County Executive cannot sell or privatize the nursing home without approval from the County Council. Giordano said there is no effort underway to do so.

She said the county's focus is on supporting the nursing home for the long term. At the request of the facility's new director, the county is now helping with financial and personnel operations there.

Giordano said the goal is to keep the nursing home safe, secure, and financially stable. She said her administration will keep working with the nursing home's leadership, staff, residents, and families.

"That is our commitment, and that is where our attention will remain," Giordano said.
