Delaware State Police Investigate Fatal Hit-and-Run in Seaford

Seaford, DE - On July 24, 2026, at approximately 2:10 p.m., Delaware State Police responded to Woodpecker Road, west of Butler Branch Road, in Seaford, Delaware, for a fatal hit-and-run crash. A bicyclist was riding eastbound along the south edge of Woodpecker Road at the time of the crash.

An unknown vehicle was also traveling eastbound on Woodpecker Road and approaching the bicyclist. For reasons still under investigation, the vehicle struck the bicyclist and left the scene.

The bicyclist, a 73-year-old man from Seaford, Delaware, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The roadway was closed for approximately four hours while troopers investigated and cleared the area.

The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate the crash. Investigators believe the suspect vehicle may have damage to the passenger side, possibly near the turn signal housing.
