Delmar Man Accused of Setting Fire To Vehicle Which Caused A Fight

Delmar, DE - A fight on Maryland Avenue in Delmar ended with one man in handcuffs after police say he started a fire and threw an unknown substance on a vehicle. The incident happened late Sunday night in a residential area of the town.

Delmar Police officers were called to 5 N. Maryland Ave. in Delmar, Delaware around 11:05 p.m. on July 19, 2026. Dispatchers reported a fight in progress at the address.

When officers arrived, they found two men fighting in the area. They quickly stepped in and separated the pair before starting their investigation.

According to police, 19-year-old David O. Bryant had tossed an unknown substance onto a vehicle and set fire to a camper parked on the property.

Police say the fight broke out when another person on scene tried to stop Bryant from continuing his actions. That intervention appears to be what sparked the physical altercation officers were called to break up.

Bryant was taken into custody following the investigation. He now faces two charges: disorderly conduct for fighting or tumultuous behavior, and reckless burning.

Both charges fall under Delaware code, since the incident took place on the Delaware side of Delmar.
