Delmar, DE - The Delmar Police Department dispatched officers to the Food Lion, located at 38650 Sussex Highway in Delmar, Delaware on July 12, 2026, after getting a call about a shoplifting complaint.

When officers arrived, they spoke with Food Lion management about what happened. Employees told officers they saw a man take an item off the shelf, then walked straight to the restroom with it.

Officers identified the man as Paul Kelly Dyson. Through their investigation, they learned Dyson went into the restroom and took the item out of its original packaging. He appeared to be trying to walk out of the store without paying for it.

Dyson was placed under arrest at the scene. He was charged with Shoplifting under $1,500 value.

Shoplifting cases like this are common for local police departments. Officers rely on store employees to help spot suspicious activity, which is exactly what happened here. Food Lion staff played a key role in this case by reporting what they saw right away.

This kind of quick action from employees often makes the difference in these situations. It allows officers to investigate and respond before a suspect can leave the store.
