Delmar, DE - Delmar School Board Vice President Shane Bowden is facing charges of Driving Under the Influence after being arrested by the Delmar Police Department. The arrest happened in the area of Benro Dr and E Line Rd, near the Wawa, on May 20, 2026.

Police found Bowden in a 2020 GMC Acadia and determined he was unsafe to operate the vehicle. He was arrested and formally charged with Driving a Vehicle Under the Influence When Alcohol Concentration .08 or More.

Bowden submitted to a blood alcohol concentration test using an Intoxilyzer. He blew a 0.21%, nearly three times Delaware's legal limit of 0.08%.

This case stands out for one simple reason. It's rare to see someone serving in elected office, especially on a school board, facing charges like this.

School board members hold a unique kind of public trust. They're elected to make decisions that shape the future of local kids. Parents and students look to them for leadership and good judgment, both in and out of the boardroom.

This is a developing story, and Eastern Shore Undercover® will continue following it as more information becomes available. Eastern Shore Undercover® has formally submitted a FOIA Request for body cam footage from the Delmar Police Officer, however at the time of this publication, we do not have that. Once we receive it, we will certainly share that with our community.
