Delmar Truck Weigh Station Gets $4.4 Million Dollar Makeover

Wicomico County, MD - Big changes are complete at the US 13 Truck Weigh and Inspection Station in Delmar. The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration just wrapped up a $4.4 million project to modernize the facility. The station sits just north of Salisbury in Wicomico County.

This scale house is one of only two left in Maryland that were built back in 1955. Maryland State Police have run the station since 1967. After decades of use, the site was due for some serious upgrades.

The project brought a long list of improvements. Crews installed new truck height detectors along with an LED signal display. They also added modern deep pit scales and a new computer system to handle weighing trucks.

Safety and convenience were a big focus of the work. The station now has more parking space set aside for inspections. Upgraded traffic barriers, better lighting and new closed circuit cameras were also part of the project.

Drivers pulling into the station will notice improved signage right away. Eyewash stations were installed to help keep workers safe on the job. The entrance gates were refurbished as well.

New office trailers and modular buildings were added on both the northbound and southbound sides. These give inspectors updated space to do their work. Even with all these changes, the property footprint did not grow.

All of the new construction fit within the existing right-of-way. Harkins Contracting Inc, based in Salisbury, served as the primary contractor on the project. The company handled the construction work from start to finish.
