Denton Police Chief Dies in Talbot County Crash
Talbot County, MD - On Friday, September 25, 2026 at approximately 11:30 a.m., troopers from the Maryland State Police Easton Barrack responded to the area of MD 331 (Dover Road) near Dover Neck Road in Talbot County for a report of a crash.
The crash claimed the life of George William Bacorn Jr., 62, of Denton. Bacorn served as Chief of Police for the Denton Police Department and was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel.
Bacorn was driving a Chevrolet Tahoe at the time of the crash. Police say a Chevrolet Silverado and Bacorn's Tahoe were both heading eastbound on MD 331.
A Ford Transit delivery truck was traveling westbound on MD 331 at the same time. For reasons still under investigation, the truck crossed the center double-yellow line and struck the Silverado's side mirror.
The delivery truck kept moving westbound after that first impact and struck Bacorn's Tahoe head-on. The driver of the delivery truck, identified as Antonio Jaquan Handy, 31, of Salisbury, Maryland, was flown to a trauma center by Maryland State Police Aviation Command.
No other injuries were reported at the scene. The Maryland State Police Crash Team is leading the investigation, and it remains active and ongoing.
Once the investigation wraps up, it will be handed over to the Office of the State's Attorney in Talbot County. That office will decide whether any charges are filed.
The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration and the Talbot County Sheriff's Office helped manage road closures at the scene. Those closures lasted more than three hours.
