Dorchester County House Fire Displaces Family of Four

Dorchester County, MD - A house fire in Rhodesdale left four people without a home Saturday evening. The fire broke out around 6:42 p.m. on July 18, 2026 in the 6200 block of Eldorado Federalsburg Road.

The two-story, wood-frame home was empty when the fire started. A neighbor spotted the flames after severe storms rolled through the area and called it in.

The Eldorado-Brookview Volunteer Fire Company led the response. In all, 45 firefighters worked the scene, and it took about two hours to bring the fire under control.

Firefighters also rescued multiple pets from the burning home. The home's smoke alarm was working and went off during the fire.

Investigators say the fire started in the attic. The cause is still under investigation, and officials have not released further details.

Damage estimates are significant. Fire officials put the loss at $200,000 to the structure and another $50,000 to its contents.

The four residents displaced by the fire are now getting help from the American Red Cross. The organization typically assists with emergency housing, food, and other essentials for families who have lost their homes.

Storms had passed through the Rhodesdale area shortly before the fire was discovered. It's not yet clear whether the weather played any role in the fire's cause.
