Dorchester County Sets Hearing on New Waste Plan
Dorchester County, MD - Dorchester County is updating its Ten-Year Solid Waste Management Plan for 2027 through 2036. The Dorchester County Department of Public Works is leading the update, following requirements set by the state of Maryland.
A draft of the plan has already received tentative approval from the Maryland Department of the Environment. The county will now hold a public hearing so residents can weigh in before it becomes final.
The hearing is set for 6:07 PM on September 15, 2026. It will take place in Room 110 of the County Office Building at 501 Court Lane in Cambridge.
Residents who want to review the draft plan ahead of time can do so starting August 25.
Copies will be available at the Department of Public Works office at 5435 Handley Road in Cambridge, Monday through Friday, from 7 AM to 3:30 PM.
A digital copy of the draft plan is also available. Residents can request one by emailing sodonnell@geosyntec.com.
Written comments on the draft plan will be accepted through September 15. Comments can be mailed to the Department of Public Works or emailed to sodonnell@geosyntec.com, and residents can also speak at the public hearing.
County officials want to make one thing clear. This draft plan will not change current refuse collection schedules, the operation of residents' convenience drop-off centers, or the current rules, regulations, or rates at the Beulah Landfill.
