Dorchester Deputies Charge Vienna Man in Illegal Dumping Case
Dorchester County, MD - Illegal dumping may seem like a minor offense to some, but law enforcement in Dorchester County wants residents to know it carries real consequences. It harms the environment, creates dangers along local roads, and costs taxpayers thousands of dollars to clean up.
Over the course of an ongoing investigation, deputies with the Dorchester County Sheriff's Office identified several illegal dumping sites in the Rhodesdale and Vienna areas. The sites contained large amounts of construction debris, including wood, shingles, paint cans, and other materials. Investigators estimate the total debris across all sites weighed several thousand pounds.
Deputies used witness statements, surveillance footage, and follow-up investigation to piece the case together. That work led them to a suspect vehicle connected to the incidents and helped them locate additional dump sites with similar materials.
As a result of the investigation, criminal charges were filed against ZaQuan Johnson, 24, of Vienna, Maryland. Johnson faces multiple littering and illegal dumping offenses. He was served with a Criminal Summons and released on a signature promise to appear in court.
The Dorchester County Sheriff's Office credited community members for playing a role in the case. "We would also like to thank the citizens who provided surveillance footage and information that assisted deputies during this investigation," the agency stated.
The Sheriff's Office made clear this case reflects their broader commitment to the community.
"The Dorchester County Sheriff's Office remains committed to protecting the quality of life in our communities and holding individuals accountable for crimes that negatively impact our county, no matter the size of the offense."
