State of DE - A Dover man has pleaded guilty to kidnapping and assaulting a woman in Smyrna, Delaware in 2025. The Delaware Department of Justice announced the plea.

On June 24, 2025, Dallas Drummond, 47, of Dover assaulted a woman in Smyrna, according to the Department of Justice. He then held her captive inside an apartment.

The woman fought back and broke free from her restraints. She escaped by jumping out of a window and ran to a neighbor's house.

The neighbor called 911. The Smyrna Police Department opened an investigation, with help from the Dover Police Department, the Delaware State Police, and Delaware Probation and Parole.

About a week later, on July 1, 2025, Smyrna Police detectives arrested Drummond. The arrest happened in the 5500 block of South Dupont Highway in Dover.

On October 6, 2026, Drummond pleaded guilty to five charges. They are first degree kidnapping, first degree assault, strangulation, possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, and possession of a deadly weapon by a person prohibited.

Attorney General Kathy Jennings spoke about the woman's actions and the work of the agencies involved.

"The victim showed remarkable courage and ingenuity here - and now, thanks in large part to her efforts, the defendant isn't going to be able to hurt anyone else," said Attorney General Kathy Jennings.

"I'm grateful for the diligent, painstaking work undertaken by our DOJ trial team, the Smyrna Police Department, the Dover Police Department, the Delaware State Police, and Delaware Probation and Parole that brought her attacker to justice. Their combined effort on this case has once again made our state a safer place."
