DSP Seeks Public's Help Finding Vehicle in Fatal Seaford Hit-and-Run

Seaford, DE - On July 24, 2026, at approximately 2:10 p.m., the Delaware State Police responded to Woodpecker Road, west of Butler Branch Road in Seaford, Delaware, for a fatal hit-and-run crash.

A bicyclist was struck and killed while riding along the road.

The bicyclist has been identified as 73-year-old Michael Barrett of Seaford, DE. He was riding eastbound along the south edge of Woodpecker Road when an unknown vehicle traveling the same direction struck him.

The driver left the scene without stopping. Barrett was pronounced dead at the scene.

The roadway was closed for approximately four hours while investigators worked the scene.

The Delaware State Police Troop 7 Collision Reconstruction Unit is now asking for the public's help. Investigators are looking for a red or maroon vehicle that may have damage to the right front headlight area, possibly near the turn signal housing.
