Eastern Shore Undercover Needs Your Help!!!

Firefighters on the Eastern Shore run toward danger every time an alarm sounds. They show up to house fires, car crashes, and emergencies of all kinds, often without a second thought. What many people never stop to consider is what it actually feels like to fight a fire in 90 degree heat.

Think about it. Fire itself generates intense heat. When you add that to an already scorching summer day, the physical toll on a firefighter's body is enormous. Dehydration can set in fast, and when it does, it puts the firefighter and everyone around them at risk.

That is why Eastern Shore Undercover is launching a community hydration fund to help stock our local fire departments with water, Gatorade, electrolyte drinks, and hydration packets, basically to keep them safe and hydrated throughout the hot weather.

The idea came together after noticing a local fire department reaching out to the community for help keeping their crews hydrated on fire calls. It sparked a simple question. If we have done fundraisers for community members before, many times, why not do one for the people protecting our homes and families?

The math is straightforward. Eastern Shore Undercover has 209,000 followers on our Facebook page. If just 1% of that following pitches in $5.00, about the cost of a cup of coffee, that adds up to roughly $10,000.

That money goes a long way. A pallet of Gatorade with 1,512 bottles runs $1,330 delivered from Amazon. A pallet of water through Amazon comes in around $360. This is very doable if we come together.

These fire departments and the men and women serving in them do not complain. They just do the job. The least we can do is make sure they hydrated when they go to these hot calls.

The goal is to collect donations by Friday, then place the order evening and have everything delivered to following week. I'm going to make sure this happens one way or the other, with or without the community's help, but it would be a heck of a lot easier with some donations. I will keep this running through Friday at 7:00 PM and then shut it off so I can place the orders.
