Easton Man Charged With Smashing Pumpkins Downtown
Easton, MD - On November 6, 2026, at approximately 4:00 a.m., the Easton Police Department found damaged property along Harrison Street in downtown Easton, Maryland. A short time later, officers arrested a local man during a traffic stop who they believe was the culprit of the damage.
Nicolas Mark Fluharty, 24, of Easton, Maryland, now faces four counts of malicious destruction of property. He's also charged with several driving offenses, including driving on a suspended and revoked license.
Officers walking downtown earlier in the night didn't see any damage on Harrison Street. However, those conditions changed just after 4:00 a.m.
Officers started finding smashed potted plants, gourds, and pumpkins on the sidewalk and in the road. As they cleared the mess from the street, they kept finding more damage at various locations.
A Waterfowl Festival sign had been torn, and decorative scarecrows were damaged. A window at the Avalon Theatre was also shattered.
Officers then checked the town's security cameras. The video showed a person damaging those items, along with a strand of green lights on a town utility pole.
The cameras also caught the person throwing a pumpkin at the front door of the Town of Easton municipal building. The door did not appear to be damaged.
The person on the video was wearing clothing that officers could easily pick out. That detail came into play a short time later.
While other officers searched the area, one officer saw a vehicle driving very fast with a loud exhaust. The officer pulled the vehicle over in the Wawa parking lot.
The driver was alone in the vehicle. He matched the description from the security video, and he still had pumpkin seeds and pulp on his clothes.
Officers determined he was the same person seen on camera damaging property downtown. The driver then tried to give officers a fake name however officers already knew the driver and identified him as Fluharty.
Police listed four victims in the case. They are the Town of Easton, The Waterfowl Festival, Inc., The Avalon Foundation, and Kyle Edward Fine Jewelry.
Fluharty was given copies of his charging documents. He was then turned over to the Talbot County Central Booking facility.
