Electrical Fire Claims Pet and Displaces Resident in Salisbury
Wicomico County, MD - On the morning of April 3, 2026, a structure fire occurred at a single-family dwelling located in the 700 block of Richmond Avenue in Salisbury, Wicomico County, Maryland.
The fire was discovered by a neighbor at approximately 5:29 a.m.
The Salisbury Fire Department served as the primary responding agency, along with firefighters from Delmar Fire Dept (Station 74), Fruitland Volunteer Fire Dept (Station 3), Hebron Volunteer Fire Dept (Station 5), and Mardela Springs Volunteer Fire Company (Station 9). Forty firefighters responded to the single-alarm incident. The fire was brought under control in 45 minutes.
Preliminary investigation determined that the fire was accidental and originated from an electrical event on the roof of the wood-framed structure. The incident resulted in an estimated $150,000 in structural damage and $20,000 in content loss.
One resident was displaced as a result of the fire. A family pet dog perished in the incident. Smoke alarms were present in the home, but it is undetermined if they activated.
The Red Cross was contacted to assist the displaced occupant, who will also be receiving assistance from family members.
