Fatal Collision Investigated Between Pickup Truck and Lawn Mower in Caroline County

Caroline County, MD - The Maryland State Police are investigating a fatal collision that occurred on the afternoon of April 15, 2026. The incident involved a Toyota pickup truck and a John Deere lawn mower in Caroline County, Maryland.

The operator of the lawn mower, identified as 42-year-old Joel Garcia of Denton, Maryland, was pronounced deceased at the scene. A 32-year-old male, who was operating the Toyota Tundra, was transported by ambulance to a local medical facility for the treatment of his injuries.

Troopers from the Maryland State Police Easton Barrack responded to the vicinity of Burrsville Road near Garland Road shortly before 3:30 p.m. Preliminary investigations indicate that the lawn mower was traveling on the westbound shoulder of Burrsville Road.

For reasons that are currently unknown, the Toyota pickup left the roadway and struck the lawn mower.

Following the crash, traffic lanes were closed for a duration exceeding six hours to allow for a thorough scene investigation. On-scene assistance was provided by Caroline County emergency medical services, the Caroline County Fire Department, and the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration.
