Fatal Crash in Laurel Claims The Life of Mardela Springs Woman

Laurel, DE - On September 15, 2026, at approximately 5:50 p.m., the Delaware State Police responded to the intersection of Salt Barn Road and Old Stage Road in Laurel, Delaware for a two-vehicle crash.

A Ford Maverick was traveling westbound on Salt Barn Road approaching the stop sign at Old Stage Road.

At the same time, a Honda HRV was traveling southbound on Old Stage Road. Police say the preliminary investigation shows the Ford failed to stop at the stop sign and struck the driver's side of the Honda.

The driver of the Honda, a 54-year-old woman from Mardela Springs, Maryland, was taken to an area hospital. She later died from her injuries. Her name is being withheld until her family is notified.

The driver of the Ford, a 32-year-old man from Laurel, Delaware was also taken to an area hospital. His injuries are described as non-life-threatening.

The roadway was closed for about three hours while police investigated and cleared the scene. The Delaware State Police Troop 7 Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing to investigate the crash.
