Fatal Crash Near Bridgeville Under Investigation

Sussex County, DE - On September 11, 2026, at approximately 12:40 p.m., the Delaware State Police responded to Seashore Highway near Oak Road for a two-vehicle crash. The crash happened just outside of Bridgeville, Delaware.

A Toyota Camry was traveling eastbound on Seashore Highway approaching Oak Road. At the same time, a Peterbilt dump truck was traveling westbound in the area.

For reasons still under investigation, the Camry crossed into the westbound lane and into the path of the Peterbilt. The front of the Camry struck the front of the Peterbilt.

After the crash, the Peterbilt became fully engulfed in fire. A third vehicle, a Peterbilt tractor pulling a loaded car trailer, was traveling behind the dump truck and avoided the collision by driving into a ditch.

The driver of the Camry, a 19-year-old man from Millsboro, was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the Camry, a 23-year-old woman from Honduras, was taken to an area hospital, where she later died.

Their names are being withheld until their families are notified.

The driver of the Peterbilt dump truck, a 58-year-old man from Ridgely, Maryland, was taken to an area hospital with injuries that are not considered life threatening. The driver of the Peterbilt tractor and car trailer was not hurt.

The roadway was closed for about five hours while police investigated and cleared the scene.
