Whaleyville, MD - Maryland State Police are investigating a deadly crash that happened Tuesday evening in Worcester County, near the intersection of U.S. Route 50 and MD Route 610 in Whaleyville, Maryland.

The victim has been identified as Gregory Roth, 79, of Ocean City, Maryland. Roth was the driver and only person in a silver 2010 Nissan Altima at the time of the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS personnel.

The crash happened shortly before 9:30 p.m. Troopers from the Berlin Barrack responded to the area after reports of the collision.

According to the preliminary investigation, Roth's Nissan was traveling northbound on MD Route 610 when police believe it failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection with westbound U.S. Route 50.

The Nissan then struck a black 2014 Ford F-150 that was heading westbound on Route 50.

The driver of the Ford F-150 was not seriously injured and refused medical treatment at the scene.

The westbound lanes of U.S. Route 50 were shut down for an extended period of time while investigators worked the scene. Deputies from the Worcester County Sheriff's Office assisted troopers, along with personnel from the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration, who helped manage the road closures.

Autopsy results are still pending from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. The Maryland State Police Crash Team is leading the active and ongoing investigation.
