Caroline County, MD - A Federalsburg man is facing multiple charges after a string of crimes that started with a stolen camera and ended with a car crash and a DUI arrest.

It began with a call to the Caroline County Sheriff's Office reporting that a male had taken a Camtro Wireless Camera from the outside of a residence. The camera was valued at around $46.

Just 11 minutes later, the Sheriff's Office received a second call. This time, a 2000 black GMC Yukon was reported to have been stolen.

Maryland State Police Troopers from the Easton Barrack responded and canvassed the area.

About 30 minutes after that second call, they located both the vehicle and the suspect in the 26000 block of Williamsburg Road.

Further investigation connected 23-year-old Franklin Steven Witt Jr. of Federalsburg, Maryland to both the camera theft and the vehicle theft. The stolen Yukon had also been involved in an accident on Williamsburg Road.

Investigators also determined that Witt was impaired by alcohol at the time. He agreed to take a chemical test, which showed his blood alcohol level was above the legal limit.

Witt was charged with Theft Less $100 Value, Motor Vehicle Theft, Theft $1,000 to Under $10,000, and Malicious Destruction of Property Over $500 Value. He also faces numerous traffic charges related to the accident, including driving without a license and driving under the influence of alcohol.

Witt was processed and later appeared before a District Court Commissioner for his initial appearance on all criminal and traffic charges. The Commissioner ordered that he be held at the Caroline County Detention Center on no bond.
