Fire Pit Debris Sparks Garage Fire in Denton

Caroline County, MD - On August 10, 2026, at approximately 7:40 p.m., the Denton Volunteer Fire Company responded to the 700 block of Market Street in Denton, Caroline County, Maryland, for a structure fire. The fire was burning in a detached garage on the property.

A passerby noticed the fire and reported it. Crews say the fire started at the rear base corner of the garage.

According to the Denton Volunteer Fire Company, the preliminary cause was debris from a fire pit that ignited dry grass at the base of the structure. The fire then spread to the garage.

Firefighters had the fire under control in about 15 minutes. Twenty firefighters responded under a single alarm.

The estimated loss is $10,000 to the structure.
