Somerset County, MD - A police pursuit in Princess Anne ended with five people in custody on Friday after officers from multiple agencies tracked down suspects connected to a stolen vehicle from a Salisbury, Maryland auto dealership.

On May 2, 2026, PFC McMenamy of the Princess Anne Police Department was patrolling near the intersection of Somerset Avenue and Mt. Vernon Road in Princess Anne, Maryland.

At that time, he spotted a silver 2005 Honda CR-V being driven erratically and without any registration plates. PFC McMenamy attempted to pull the vehicle over, but the driver refused to stop and took off heading west on Mt. Vernon Road.

The chase did not last long before the vehicle stopped near the 29400 block of Mt. Vernon Road.

Three of the occupants jumped out of the Honda and ran into a wooded area nearby. The vehicle then sped off again before officers could catch up, quickly disappearing from sight.

With the suspects now scattered, additional officers from the Princess Anne Police Department and the Maryland State Police were called to the area to help search. The situation was unfolding fast with subjects on foot and a vehicle still on the move.

Shortly after, the Honda CR-V turned up again. It had crashed into a ditch west of where officers were searching. Two more occupants got out of the crashed vehicle and also tried to flee on foot.

Law enforcement resources in the area were stretched thin. Keep in mind, this was the first weekend that there was no Somerset County Sheriff's Office coverage due to staffing shortages and recent changes so backup was requested from surrounding agencies.

Law Enforcement Officers from the Maryland State Police Trooper 4 (Aviation Unit), the Fruitland Police Department, and the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office K-9 Unit were all requested to assist.

With the combined effort of multiple agencies working together, all five individuals were located and taken into custody. The K-9 unit proved to be a key part of tracking down those who had fled into the woods.

Investigators later confirmed that the Honda CR-V had been reported stolen from the Pohanka dealership in Salisbury, Maryland. Pohanka operates several dealerships along the North Salisbury Boulevard corridor and is one of the largest automotive groups serving the Eastern Shore.

The names of the five individuals taken into custody have not yet been released, nor have any photos at this time.
