Just Try It Sports Event Returns to Salisbury
Salisbury, MD - Wicomico Recreation & Parks is bringing back its popular Just Try It event this summer, giving local kids a chance to test out new sports without any pressure to sign up for a full season. The free event is set for Saturday, Aug. 22, at Wicomico County Stadium.
Families can drop in between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. to check out flag football, field hockey, soccer and track and field. Each sport will have its own short clinic, so kids can get a real feel for how it works before deciding if it's for them.
"We want to give children a chance to try a sport before committing to a full season," said Recreation Program Specialist Randy McFadden. "Just Try It provides an opportunity for parents and children to come out, have fun trying a variety of sports and then decide if they want to make a bigger commitment."
The event is open to children ages 3 to 11. Whether your child already loves sports or has never picked up a ball, there is something for everyone to try.
Beyond the sports clinics, families can look forward to music and giveaways throughout the morning. Staff from Wicomico Recreation & Parks will also be on hand to answer questions and share information about upcoming programs.
The department will have details available on its scholarship opportunities, which help make youth sports more accessible for families in the community. Representatives from participating organizations will also be at the event to talk with parents directly.
Preregistration is recommended for anyone planning to attend. Families can sign up online at WicomicoRecandParks.org ahead of the event.
