Wicomico County, MD - Kids in Wicomico County will get a free chance to test out a new sport, and parents won't have to sign them up for a whole season to do it. Wicomico Recreation & Parks is bringing back its Just Try It event on Tuesday, November 10, 2026.

The event runs from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Wicomico Civic Center in Salisbury, MD. It's open to children ages 3 to 11, and there's no cost to attend.

This time around, kids can try four sports: basketball, wrestling, volleyball and karate. Each one will have its own short clinic that covers the basics, so kids can move from one to the next and see what they like.

Randy McFadden, a Recreation Program Specialist with Wicomico Recreation & Parks, said the goal is to let families try things out first.

"We want to give children a chance to try a sport before committing to a full season," McFadden said. "Just Try It provides an opportunity for parents and children to come out, have fun trying a variety of sports and then decide if they want to make a bigger commitment."

Has your child been asking about karate or wrestling, but you're not sure they'll stick with it? This event gives you a way to find out before you sign up for anything.

The clinics aren't the only thing going on that night. There will be music and giveaways, and coaches from other organizations taking part in the event will be there to work with the kids.

Parents can also learn about scholarship opportunities offered by Wicomico Recreation & Parks while they're there.

Organizers recommend signing up ahead of time. You can preregister online at www.WicomicoRecandParks.org.
