Fuel Argument Leads to Assault Arrest in Cambridge
Cambridge, MD - On Monday, October 5, 2026, at approximately 12:00 p.m., the Cambridge Police Department responded to Corner Market, 2600 block of Cambridge Beltway, Cambridge, MD for a reported assault.
Later that day, officers arrested Jermaine Dawayne Meekins, 53, of Cambridge, Maryland, on a warrant tied to the incident.
When officers got to the store, they spoke with the victim. The victim told them about an argument that started inside a vehicle.
According to police, the argument was over who was going to fill the vehicle with fuel. The victim reported being punched by Meekins while riding down the road.
Officers saw signs of injury on the victim. Police did not say how badly the victim was hurt or if medical care was needed.
Officers then went to a District Court Commissioner and applied for charges against Meekins. A commissioner looks at the facts of a case and decides if charges should be filed.
That step led to an arrest warrant through the Dorchester County District Court. The warrant was active by that evening.
At approximately 5:33 p.m., officers arrested Meekins on the warrant. Meekins is charged with Second Degree Assault.
Meekins was later released on personal recognizance. This means Meekins was let go without paying bail, with a promise to appear in court.
In Maryland, Second Degree Assault can cover a range of actions, including hitting someone in a way that causes harm.
The whole case moved quickly. The call to Corner Market and the arrest both happened within about five and a half hours on the same day.
