Greensboro Names New Police Chief
Greensboro, MD - The Town of Greensboro has selected Captain Prendi V. Garcia of the Maryland State Police as its next Chief of Police. Garcia brings nearly three decades of law enforcement leadership to the role.
Garcia has served with the Maryland State Police for 29 years. During that time he held patrol, investigative, supervisory, and command positions across the state.
His background includes work in criminal investigations, narcotics enforcement, and complex criminal cases. Many of those cases led to convictions in both Maryland state courts and federal court.
Garcia is also a United States Army veteran. He served as a Military Police Soldier for more than 33 years and recently retired with an Honorable Discharge.
Between his military and police careers, Garcia has more than six decades of service to the country and the state of Maryland. He is set to retire from the Maryland State Police on August 1, 2026.
State retirement law requires a 45 day separation period before he can start a municipal job. Because of that rule, Garcia is expected to begin his new role as Chief of Police in mid-September 2026.
"We are excited to welcome Captain Garcia to the Town of Greensboro," Town officials stated. "His exceptional leadership, extensive investigative experience, military service, and unwavering commitment to community policing make him uniquely qualified to lead the Greensboro Police Department."
Town officials added that they are confident in his leadership going forward. "We are confident that under his leadership, the department will continue to strengthen partnerships with our residents while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism, accountability, and public service," officials said.
Once he takes office, Garcia's priorities will include building community trust and expanding proactive policing strategies. He also plans to focus on recruiting and developing officers while promoting transparency and accountability within the department.
"I am deeply honored by the confidence the Mayor and Town Council have placed in me," said Captain Garcia. "Serving the citizens of Maryland through the Maryland State Police and serving our nation in the United States Army have been the greatest privileges of my professional life."
Garcia said he looks forward to working with town officials and residents. "I look forward to continuing that service in Greensboro by working alongside town officials and members of the community to build strong partnerships, enhance public safety, and ensure Greensboro remains a safe and welcoming place to live, work, and visit," he said.
The Town of Greensboro plans to release more details on Garcia's swearing-in ceremony as the date gets closer. Community welcome events are also expected to be announced.
