Grinding Spark Ignites Garage Fire in Eden

Wicomico County, MD - A fire broke out on Monday at a detached garage and shop on Noble Farm Road in Eden, Maryland, causing one person to be treated for smoke inhalation.

The Allen Volunteer Fire Company responded to the 3000 block of Noble Farm Road in Eden, Maryland after the property owner discovered the fire.

The blaze started on the first floor of the two-story brick garage, which measures 50 feet by 40 feet. Fire officials say the fire was accidental, caused by sparks from a grinding wheel igniting nearby combustible materials.

Twenty-five firefighters responded to the single-alarm fire. Crews had the flames under control within 20 minutes.

One person was treated at the scene for minor smoke inhalation.

The State Fire Marshals Office estimates the damage to the structure at $2,000, with contents losses estimated at $5,000.

This fire is a good reminder to take extra care when using grinding tools or other spark-producing equipment near combustible materials. Keeping work areas clear and having a fire extinguisher nearby can help prevent similar incidents.
