Worcester County, MD - Worcester County Public Works is getting ready to replace the Hotel Road Bridge in Bishopville. Construction is set to begin in September 2026.

Once work starts, Hotel Road will close at the bridge. Signed detour routes will be in place the whole time, and the closure is expected to last about 120 days.

So why replace it now? The bridge is a three-span timber-beam structure, and it received unsatisfactory sufficiency ratings during the county's annual bridge inspection program.

The good news is the project qualifies for funding through the Highway Bridge Program. That means the replacement can move forward without putting the full cost on local taxpayers.

Before construction begins, the county wants to hear from the community. A public comment period is open now, and residents have until August 10 to weigh in.

If you have thoughts on the project, you can send them to Roads Superintendent Kevin Lynch at klynch@worcestermd.gov. For detour routes and the full project details, head towww.worcestermd.gov.
