IRONMAN Maryland Race Set for This Saturday in Cambridge

Dorchester County, MD - IRONMAN Maryland is coming back to Cambridge and Dorchester County this Saturday, September 19, 2026.

The race will bring heavy traffic and several road closures throughout the day.

The event starts early in the morning and continues until after midnight. Residents should expect a big increase in car, bicycle and foot traffic across town.

There will be multiple street closures and detours during the race. These closures will follow the same routes used in past years.

Areas expected to see traffic impacts include Somerset Avenue, Hambrooks Boulevard, Riverside Drive, High Street, Poplar Street and Water Street. Route 343, the West Side Bypass, Sandy Hill Road, Glasgow Street and Jenkins Creek Road will also be affected.

Various roads throughout southern Dorchester County will see traffic too, since the bike course covers 112 miles. The busiest traffic is expected on Saturday, though residents may notice extra activity throughout race week.

Motorists driving through the area should allow extra travel time and use alternate routes when possible. Deputies, officers, traffic control workers and race volunteers will be stationed along the course.

Drivers are asked to follow all temporary traffic signs and directions from the personnel working the event. Extra caution is encouraged for anyone traveling near the race course this weekend.

Thousands of athletes, spectators, volunteers and support staff will be in our community for the race. We ask everyone to stay patient and help keep the event safe for the athletes, residents, visitors and public safety workers.
