Jury Finds Keffe D Guilty in Tupac Shakur Murder

National News - A jury reached a verdict on Monday Night, August 31, 2026, finding Duane "Keffe D" Davis guilty in connection with the 1996 murder of well-known rapper Tupac Shakur.

The verdict came after just a few hours of deliberation, following a trial that lasted roughly two weeks.

Shakur was shot in a drive-by shooting near the Las Vegas Strip on September 7, 1996. He died from his injuries a few days later.

Prosecutors said Davis, a former "shot caller" for the South Side Compton Crips, planned the shooting as revenge. They told jurors that Shakur and Suge Knight had beaten up Davis' nephew earlier that same night.

Davis did not pull the trigger. Under Nevada law, he was tried as an accomplice, accused of getting the gun used in the shooting and riding in the white Cadillac the shots were fired from.

Prosecutors dropped a gang enhancement charge during the trial due to issues with witness logistics.

Davis' defense argued that his past public statements, including details in his own memoir, were exaggerated and should be treated as fiction rather than fact.

The defense also pointed to a lack of direct physical evidence tying Davis to the crime. Despite those arguments, the jury returned a guilty verdict.

Davis now faces a possible sentence of life in prison. His sentencing hearing is scheduled to take place within the next 60 days in a Nevada courtroom.

After the verdict was read, Davis said he plans to appeal his conviction.
