Kent County Man Charged With Indecent Exposure
Kent County, MD - Over the past 24 hours, several local parents in the Kent County area reached out to us. They had questions about a rumored arrest involving the husband of a local dance studio owner.
We reached out to the Kent County Sheriff's Office to confirm the details or dispel the rumors. Here is what we found.
On June 19, 2026, Sgt. G. Manning of the Kent County Sheriff's Office began investigating a report of an indecent exposure that occurred at Betterton Beach. A witness said a man disrobed and exposed his genitals to a minor in the parking area.
Through the investigation, Shawn Thomas Gallew, age 46, of Chestertown, Maryland, was identified as the suspect. Sgt. Manning later applied for two charges, through the District Court Commissioners Office and both charges were found to have probable cause.
Those charges are Indecent Exposure to a Minor and Indecent Exposure.
On July 15, 2026, Gallew was served a Kent County District Court Criminal Summons.
Several people have asked if Gallew was arrested as a result of the charges. He was not. He was charged through a criminal summons, which works much like a citation, requiring him to appear in court. This is not the decision of law enforcement, this comes as a result of the District Court Commissioner's decision to issue an arrest warrant or a criminal summons.
In this instance, the District Court Commissioner issued the criminal summons.
As of the time of this publication, we are not aware of any additional past or future charges that will be filed against Gallew.
