Laurel Man Charged With Attempted Murder After Early Morning Shooting

Sussex County, DE - A 67-year-old Laurel man is facing serious charges after Delaware State Police say he shot another man in the chest during an early morning argument.

Blair Bennett was arrested following a shooting that happened around 2:35 a.m. on June 16, 2026, on the 6200 block of Phillips Landing Road in Laurel, Delaware.

Troopers and officers from the Laurel Police Department responded to a residence in the area after receiving a report of a shooting. When they arrived, they found a 45-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the chest.

Officers provided medical aid at the scene before the victim was transported to an area hospital. He is currently listed in critical condition.

Investigators say the shooting happened during an argument between Bennett and the victim.
A third person was also inside the home at the time but was not hurt.

Bennett was taken into custody at the residence without incident and transported to Troop 5 for processing.

He was charged with three felonies:

  • Attempted Murder 1st Degree
  • Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony
  • Reckless Endangering 1st Degree

Following arraignment by the Justice of the Peace, Bennett was committed to the Delaware Department of Correction on a $3,198,000 cash bond.
