Laurel Police Arrest Woman For Fake Sexual Assault Report
Laurel, DE - Laurel Police are reporting that an investigation into a sexual assault, has revealed the reported was completely made up. The case has led to serious charges for the woman who filed it.
On June 4, 2026, the Laurel Police Department's Criminal Investigation Unit responded to a reported sexual assault in the 100 block of Delaware Avenue in Laurel, Delaware.
Detectives were called in after patrol officers spoke with the alleged victim, 21-year-old Alexis Hawkins of Centreville, Maryland.
Hawkins told officers she had been sexually assaulted by a male earlier that day. She was receiving treatment at Tidal Health Nanticoke Hospital at the time.
Detectives got to work right away. They conducted multiple interviews, reviewed surveillance footage, checked electronic communications, and followed several investigative leads to piece together what really happened.
As the investigation moved forward, the evidence started telling a different story. Surveillance footage didn't match Hawkins' version of the events, and her electronic communications didn't line up with her claims.
After reviewing everything, investigators determined the sexual assault never happened. They believe Hawkins made up the allegation after the man she accused had rejected her.
Hawkins was arrested and now faces two charges. She's charged with providing a false statement to law enforcement, a Class G felony, and falsely reporting a criminal incident, a Class A misdemeanor.
She was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court and given a $1,500 secured bond. After she couldn't post bond, she was taken to Sussex Correctional Institute.
