Mailbox Fire on Melson Road in Delmar Under Investigation
Delmar, MD - A residential mailbox caught fire Thursday afternoon in Delmar, on the Maryland side, and investigators are now asking the public for help in finding out what caused it.
The fire was reported at 1:36 p.m. on May 1, 2026, in the 31000 block of Melson Road in Wicomico County, Maryland. A passerby spotted the flames and reported it.
The Delmar Fire Department responded with 10 firefighters and had the fire under control within five minutes. The damage was limited to the plastic mailbox, with an estimated loss of $250.
Investigators determined the fire started inside the mailbox. The cause is still under investigation.
Because the cause has not been ruled out as intentional, Deputy State Fire Marshals are asking anyone with information to come forward. Tips can make a big difference in cases like this, even if the information seems small.
