Dorchester County, MD - A brush fire broke out Saturday evening on Hatsawap Road in Cambridge, Maryland, sending one man to a Baltimore burn center with injuries.

The fire was reported at 7:16 p.m. on May 17, 2026. The Rescue Fire Company responded with five firefighters and had the blaze under control in just four minutes.

The fire burned an area of grass roughly 15 feet by 10 feet. Investigators say embers from a nearby burn ignited the grass and brush.

The property owner discovered the fire. He tried to put it out himself, and that is when he got hurt.

An adult male was flown to Johns Hopkins Bayview Burn Center in Baltimore by Maryland State Police Aviation Command. His injuries were described as non-life threatening.

This incident is a reminder of how quickly a small fire can get out of hand. Even a smoldering burn pile can spread embers, especially on dry or windy days.
