Cambridge, MD - A 40-year-old Hurlock man was arrested Thursday night after a chaotic incident that started with him chasing cars and ended with him pulling a knife on police officers.

On April 23, 2026, at around 9:08 p.m., Cambridge Police Department officers were called to the area of Dorchester Avenue and Washington Street. Someone had reported a man chasing cars who appeared to be intoxicated.

Officers tracked down the subject at a nearby WaWa. There, they made contact with Scott Michael Stier of Hurlock, Maryland.

From the start, Stier was difficult to deal with. Officers noted he was under the influence and acting extremely disorderly, yelling and threatening officers on the scene.

Things didn't settle down from there. Stier repeatedly tried to leave the property, only to come back each time to argue with officers. He also threw a bicycle around multiple times during the confrontation.

The situation then took a more serious turn. As Stier continued to yell, scream, and threaten officers, he approached one of them with a folding knife in his hand. He ignored orders to stop.
At that point, officers placed Stier under arrest. He was transported to Cambridge Police Department for processing.

Even then, the situation wasn't over. While being processed, Stier spit at one of the officers.
Stier was later turned over to the Dorchester County Department of Corrections. He was held on a $2,500 bond. He was charged with the following offenses:

  • Intoxicated in Public
  • Disorderly Conduct
  • Trespass on Private Property
  • Assault in the Second Degree
  • Failure to Obey
