Man Steals Fire Truck During House Fire

National News - At approximately 3:50 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2026, State Troopers from the Troop F barracks responded to a house fire in Dalton, New Hampshire to assist Dalton Fire & Rescue. While on scene, troopers learned that the homeowner had stolen a Whitefield Fire & Rescue vehicle.

The homeowner has been identified as Nestor Roman II, 30, of Dalton, New Hampshire. Troopers say he drove the stolen rescue vehicle east on Faraway Road.

While driving the stolen vehicle, Roman struck another Whitefield Fire & Rescue engine that was actively fighting the fire. He also drove over several water supply lines and narrowly missed three firefighters.

Wooden fences at two separate properties were damaged during the incident. A short time later, troopers received a call from a Dalton homeowner reporting that the stolen rescue vehicle had crashed on their property.

The caller also said the suspect was trying to take items from the home's porch. Troopers arrived a short time later and found Roman on the porch.

Roman was uncooperative with troopers but was eventually taken into custody. He now faces multiple charges in connection with the incident.

Those charges include three felony counts of reckless conduct with a deadly weapon, along with felony burglary and two counts of theft by unauthorized taking. He also faces several misdemeanor charges, including obstructing government administration, four counts of conduct after an accident, resisting arrest and detention, driving after suspension subsequent, and two counts of driving over a fire hose without consent.

Roman was taken to the Coös County jail. He is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2026, in Lancaster District Court.
